Farber,
Albert George
Holton, Michigan
Albert (Al) George Farber went home to be with Jesus on August 23, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones, family, and friends. Born on September 8, 1950, in Shelby, Michigan, Al was the cherished son of George and Dorothy (Baxter) Farber. He spent his formative years in Shelby before moving to Holton, Michigan, to embark on his adult life. On July 13, 1975, he married his beloved wife, Pamela, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together. Their life together was devoted to creating a loving family, enriching their own lives and the lives of everyone around them.
Al dedicated his entire career to Engine Powered Components (EPC) in Grand Haven, Michigan, retiring in 2016. His friendly, giving spirit earned him not only the respect of his colleagues but also lifelong friendships, including Larry and Dana, who became an integral part of his extended family. Al was a devoted man of God and a longtime Brother of the Christian Life Center Church. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and shaping his relationships. His commitment to kindness, generosity, and his church community reflected his deep spiritual beliefs and left a profound impact on everyone he encountered.
As a devoted father, Al was a beloved "neighborhood dad" and "grandpa" to many, such as Christine and Little Pam. His dedication to family was evident in every aspect of his life. When he wasn't working hard-often going above and beyond to help others in need-he was creating memories with his loved ones.
Al had a deep passion for tractors, and one of his favorite annual traditions was attending the Buckley Old Engine Show. Every year, he would rise before dawn, eager to arrive as soon as the gates opened, and share the experience with his family. His tractors were more than machines; they were the backdrop for countless memories, including hayrides and teaching his children and neighborhood kids how to drive.
For his children, some of the most cherished memories are of early mornings filled with applesauce pancakes, followed by days of bike rides, poolside fun, and sledding adventures. Al's ability to make every child feel loved, whether biological or not, was a testament to his big heart and generous spirit.
After retiring, Al devoted himself to providing transportation for the local Amish community. What began as a simple service quickly blossomed into a series of cherished memories and deep friendships. Over the years, these connections grew strong, and Al came to hold the relationships he built with the community close to his heart. In return, they offered him meals, love, and companionship, especially during the last years of his life. These bonds became a source of comfort and joy, reflecting the mutual respect and affection shared between Al and the families he helped. Among his dear friends, Amos and Noah stood out, becoming especially close to him and enriching his life in countless ways.
Al is survived by his four beloved children: Tim (Alex) Farber of Holton, Tammy (Patrick) Hayford of Twin Lake, Eric (TracyLynn) Farber of Washington, and Rebecca (Brent) Shelton. His cherished sister and lifelong friend, Darlene (Ralph) Gonzales of Texas, was always a source of unwavering support and companionship. Al is also survived by his brother Floyd (Deb) of Indiana and sisters-in-law Janet Cook of New Era, Patty Motney of Muskegon, Debbie Peterson of Grand Rapids, and Carol Cook of Newaygo. His stepmother, Eva Farber of Muskegon. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles, each of whom will remember him with fondness and affection.
Al was an extraordinary grandfather, known for his unwavering reliability and boundless love. His grandchildren always knew they could count on Grandpa Al to show up and fill their lives with joy. His playful pranks, jokes, and infectious laughter made their childhoods truly unforgettable. Alongside his warmth and affection, Al's stern demeanor imparted many valuable lessons and skills, shaping his grandchildren with his wisdom and guidance.
He is survived by his grandchildren Brianna Farber, Kayley Farber, Jacob (Hannah) Farber-Hayford, Garet Farber-Hayford, Lukus Farber, Kade Farber, Heidi Farber, Sara Farber, Jack and Jake Nichols, as well as his adored great-grandchild, Daxtyn Hayford. His blend of loving support and disciplined teaching left an indelible mark on their lives.
His grandchildren cherished the phone calls and surprise visits from Al. In particular, Garet dedicated much of the past four years to ensuring that Al's home was warm and well-maintained. These acts of love and dedication were a testament to the deep bond they shared.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Farber; his beloved wife, Pamela Sue Farber; mother-in-law, Margaret Cook; his sister, Winnie Velez; and his infant siblings, Dorothy and David Farber. He was also preceded by his dear brothers-in-law and close friends, Israel Velez and Jim Cook, whose presence in his life was especially cherished. Additionally, he was preceded by his brothers-in-law Paul Christensen and Menzo Motney.
In accordance with Al's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on October 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Christian Life Center Church, located at 539 E. Pine St., Fremont, MI. Pastor Neil Tedford will be officiating the service. Following the service, a luncheon will be shared to celebrate Al's life and the many memories he leaves behind.
As we come together to remember Al and honor his legacy, we find solace in these words from Scripture:
"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
- Psalm 34:18
May this promise bring comfort to all who gather to celebrate Al's life and cherish the memories we hold dear.
