Ada Mae Spears

Spears, Mrs, Ada Mae Muskegon, Michigan Mrs, Ada Mae Spears, age 78, departed this life and was escorted into the presence of the Lord (2 Corinthians 5) on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. She was born on March 20, 1944 to the Union of King David (K. D.) and Kattie B Townsell. She was baptized in Jesus' Name and filled with the precious Holy Ghost at an early age under the leadership of the late Bishop Willie Lee at Christ Temple Apostolic Church. Ada attended Muskegon Heights Public Schools. She had an undeniable love for learning and according to her home room teacher, "always sought for levels of meaning". 'Communications', 'Music' and 'Home Economics' were her favorite subjects. She had an ultimate goal in mind: conveying the love of God with others through music and being a wife and mother. Her first official job was in early education of preschool children. She was very excited with the classroom's location and the surrounding area as it provided tangible teaching materials built right in to the structure. Unbeknownst to her, Ada could inadvertently have a "claim to fame" in Muskegon's history. The classroom was in the 2nd "big" house on the corner of Webster and Sixth. The house is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places and known as the "Hume House"! Ada was very active in multiple clubs and organizations which included the Community Choir. There she met Willie Johnson. Not only was he a 'standup guy' but he was a singer and Ada played the piano. It was a match made in Heaven! Soon thereafter the "storybook" love materialized when Ada Mae Townsell and Willie Johnson were joined in Holy Matrimony. To this Union, five children were born. Ada's dream of ministering through music, being a wife, and mother had become reality! But tragedy struck the young family when Willie became ill and died suddenly at only 28 years old. God gave Ada supernatural strength in the midst of her indescribable grief. She was able to make things seem like an adventure as she moved back with her parents to piece back together our shattered lives. Ada returned to Muskegon Community College and, being a natural orator, she studied journalism. She worked for a time as a news reporter for WKBZ-a position that allowed her to continue to be readily present with her children. It wasn't only Ada's children who were recipients of her devotion; she was an outstanding mother to EVERY child! She taught "front porch" Bible studies to neighborhood kids. She gave rides to and from school to both the kids and their parents so they could attend events. Often she became an impromptu coach, cheerleader, seamstress, doctor, chauffeur, chef, confidant, counselor and friend. When she became "Nanna", she added another attribute to her impressive portfolio: "Gansta". If there was ANY indication that her grandchildren were in distress, the gloves came off and there were "no holds barred!" She was "hands on" and there were very few of their events that she didn't attend. In fact, she was their chauffeur too! Ada enjoyed cooking, traveling, playing the piano and singing. It is without dispute that her greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends. She loved being an active part of her church and until sickness overcame her, she served in a variety of capacities. Over the years Ada served and worshiped at "Four Corners" Church, Solid Rock, "The Church", the former Muskegon Apostolic Tabernacle (now known as The Way), and returned home to Zion Tabernacle House of God. The opportunity of being a wife, a position Ada cherished, came around again when Early Joe Spears asked for her hand in marriage SURVIVORS Ada leaves to cherish her memories five children: William, Rolando (Latrese), Duane (Shundrice) Johnson of Texas, David (Rose) Johnson and Terees (Torrance) Williams of Muskegon, MI, 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, a special "adopted" brother Jim Clark, and a hold host of cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her infant sister Addie Neal, parents King David (K. D.) and Kattie B. Townsell, first husband Willie Johnson, last husband Early Joe Spears, and granddaughter Ajanae Ivy-Brown. SERVICE Tuesday, October 4, 2022, 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service at Zion Tabernacle House of God (1282 4th St, Muskegon,MI 49441) with Pastor David Wimbley officiating.
