Mr. John A. Bytwerk, age 90, of Spring Lake passed away May 27 2007 at his home. John was born August 18, 1916 to the late Isaac and Kate (Veenstra) Bytwerk in Grand Rapids. He married the former Jeanne Sterenberg on April 27, 1937 in Muskegon. John moved from Muskegon to Spring Lake in 1973. He was in the grocery business from 1945-1954 and was an insurance agent with Washington National from 1954-1998. John was a member and former elder at Second Christian Reformed Church, Grand Haven, a former deacon, elder and member of Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church, past president of Christian Home for Aged and the Christian Nursing Home in Muskegon, past president of the Muskegon Life Underwriters and former member of the Muskegon Optimist. He also volunteered for North Ottawa Community Hospital, the Salvation Army and the Christian School Nearly New. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne; 1 daughter, Barbara (Henry) Vander Veen, Jenison, MI, 2 sons; Ronald (Judy) Bytwerk, Copemish, MI., Jack (Jeannette also known as Bunny) Bytwerk, Spring Lake, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. 1 sister, Trudy Kramer, Muskegon, 1 brother, Andrew (Caroline) Bytwerk, North Muskegon, sister-in-law, Helene Bytwerk, Lansing, MI, 2 brother-in-laws; Henry (Amy) Sterenberg, Spring Lake, Edward (Ruth Ann) Sterenberg, North Muskegon. He was preceded in death by sister, Louise Petersen and 2 brothers, James and Conrad Bytwerk. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. The Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Second Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Doug Bytwerk and Rev. Michael Koetje officiating. Interment at Restlawn Cemetery. Friends may meet the family 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Memorials to West Michigan Christian High or CRWRC.
